TRIZ-Based Creative Problem Solving
Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Dr. Lau Siong Hoe   (Biography)
Multimedia University
Malaysia

This creative problem solving program is based on TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) with the aim to provide the large public with knowledge and tools which help them solve creatively and innovatively in a scientific way problems they may encounter during their lives. The TRIZ systematic approach guides people during problem solving activities avoiding a random exploration of the space of solutions towards solutions that have demonstrated their efficiency and effectiveness in similar situations in the past, in the same or in completely different application domains. TRIZ does not give solutions directly applicable but it suggests only research directions to find solutions and then leaving place to the inventors’ creativity. In summary, the aim of this workshop is not only to accumulate knowledge, but rather to learn to think creatively, teach oneself and seek answers to questions as yet unexplored and put creative ideas into action systematically. With TRIZ, inventors can generate more ideas than before, faster than before, and select the best ones in an automatic way.

Biometric Template Security and Privacy
Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Dr. Ong Thian Song   (Biography)
Multimedia University
Malaysia

In recent year, biometric technology has raised significant security and privacy concerns that need to be addressed immediately. Biometrics offers an alternative and reliable personal authentication system over conventional methods as it is unlikely for biometric data to be lost or forgotten. However, the traditional methods of biometrics storage poses a number of security and privacy risks to the users. This tutorial will present various biometric template protection approaches with the discussion of issues and challenges faced in each approach. A show case demo will be presented during the discussion.

Biometric Technology: What, Why, and How
Thursday, May 29, 2014

Prof. Goh Kah Ong Michael   (Biography)
Multimedia University
Malaysia

Biometrics has evolved as an important way to identify a person in this modern world. Many countries have adopted biometric technology to replace identity card system at the immigration and government agencies. This tutorial will present a comprehensive overview of biometric technology. The content of the tutorial include an introduction to biometrics, biometric characteristics, comparison of biometrics technologies, biometrics performance evaluation and its applications and challenges. Simple exercises will also be given to a small group of audience to measure and compare their own biometrics with the others.

Agent Based Mobile Ubiquitous Computing
Thursday, May 29, 2014

Prof. Dr. Suresh Sankaranarayanan, SMIEEE   (Biography)
Institut Teknologi Brunei
Brunei Darussalam

In recent years there has been tremendous growth in Mobile device and Communication technology and also it has become part of everyone’s life . So in this context Mobile Ubiquitous system utilizes advanced wireless communication technologies and offer personalized context aware services which is rapidly evolving like “smart homes”, “smart offices” and “smart cities”. But it is seen that these Mobile Ubiquitous system does not in general possess any intelligence in taking decision replicating a job of human based on information received sensor and context aware systems like Sensors, RFIDs replicating human being. These sensor and context aware system possess limited memory and process power to build intelligence making it intelligent system. So towards developing an intelligent mobile ubiquitous system there is need of intelligent Agent technology which can adapt to environment, interpret and apply intelligence in taking decision based on information received from sensor and context aware system to provide Agent based Mobile Ubiquitous systems. So, based on Agent based Mobile Ubiquitous, the tutorial would emphasize on various applications with screenshots as case studies developed in Agent based Mobile Ubiquitous in Networking, Commercial and Health Sector. The tutorial final ends with insight into cloud computing and possible future research in Agent based Mobile Ubiquitous system with Cloud.
